National Market System Plans

NYSE Arca participates in the National Market System Plans for exchange-listed securities and OTC securities. The Consolidated Tape Association (CTA) and Consolidated Quotation (CQ) Plans govern quote and trade dissemination for exchange-listed securities, while the OTC/UTP Plan governs quote and trade dissemination for OTC securities.

CTA/CQ Plans
The Consolidated Tape and Quote market data feeds are the single source of consolidated market data that provide continuous last sale prices and volume (CT) and quotes (CQ) of all exchange-listed securities to the public. The Consolidated Tape Association (CTA) is the policymaking and administrative body that oversees the collection, processing and distribution of exchange-listed market data. It is comprised of a voting member from each of the following market centers: American Stock Exchange, Boston Stock Exchange, Chicago Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, New York Stock Exchange, NYSE Arca, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Chicago Board of Options Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers. The CTA/CQ Plans are administered by the participant exchanges which determine policy matters and oversee system operations. The CTA/CQ Plans are filed with and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission in accordance with Section 11A of the Federal Securities Laws.

The Consolidated Tape consists of two networks:

  • Tape A/Network A — Contains market data from New York Stock Exchange-listed securities from all market centers trading such securities.
  • Tape B/Network B — Contains market data from all other exchange-listed securities including securities listed on the American Stock Exchange, NYSE Arca, and regional stock exchanges. Such data includes trading activity from all market centers trading such securities.

OTC/UTP Plan
The OTC/UTP data feeds consist of one network, Tape C, which is the single source of consolidated market data for Nasdaq-listed securities (i.e., Nasdaq National Market and Small Cap securities). The UTP Quote Data Feed (UQDF) provides continuous quotations from all market centers trading Nasdaq-listed securities. The UTP Trade Data Feed (UTDF) provides continuous last sale information from all market centers trading Nasdaq-listed securities. The OTC/UTP Plan governs the collection, processing and distribution of all data and is comprised of the following market centers: American Stock Exchange, Boston Stock Exchange, Chicago Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, NYSE Arca, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, and the National Association of Securities Dealers. The OTC/UTP Plan is administered by the participant exchanges which determine policy matters and oversee system operations. Further, NYSE Arca currently is responsible for chairing the Plan Committee. The OTC/UTP Plans are filed with and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission in accordance with Section 11A of the Federal Securities Laws.
